Several teams are interested in trading for the New York Mets Gold Glove Center Fielder, Juan Lagares. The Mets have a surplus of outfielders going into spring training. They have been trying to trade Jay Bruce to acquire a relief pitcher but with the recent resigning of Fernando Salas and Jerry Blevins, that seems unlikely.
The Mets could trade Lagares for a few prospects in return. His value isn’t significantly high because of his DL stints and low batting average in recent seasons. In 2016 he batted .239 with 3 home runs and 9 runs batted in. He only played in 79 games due to a left ligament tear in his thumb that he suffered in June.
The Mets should keep Lagares because he still holds value to this team. He is the only right handed outfield bat off the bench for the Mets and he is the only true center fielder this team has. He will be a vital piece for this team late in games as he provides his gold glove caliber defense in Center Field.
If the Mets do in fact trade Lagares, (which I feel is very unlikely) Jose Reyes can fill in as a late in the game defensive Center fielder, given his athletic ability and willingness to learn the position.
